The Field Day team Captains are responsible for several tasks leading up to Field Day.
- Is to secure a shelter to protect his team from the sun and cool weather.
- To safely set a multiband antenna.
- To ensure their logging computer is ready to go.
- To gather as many batteries as necessary to run the station and computers for the weekend.
- To schedule operators throughout the day.
- To capture the ARRL bulletin.
- And to give your logs to the event manager for submition to the ARRL. Usually, Rich Seifert will review the logs prior to submition.
As mentioned, we've had continuing problems with having assistant operators ten deep in the morning, and the station abandoned in the afternoon evening hours.
Scheduling is important. Communicating with the club "Phone operators needed for Saturday evening" should be communicated.
Evening and night assistant operators are hard to come by.
Team Captains need inventory the above needed equipment and talk with your assistant operators. If you need more batteries, Ask the club members for batteries.
If you don't have a Field Day logging computer, ask around. I have several logging computers that I could loan out.
Communication is the key. Being a sole operator at Field Day can wear you out. I recommend that Assistant operators "run" the station for 1 to 2 hour time slots.
Much more and you can wear down . Also, An assistant operator may run Digital between 1 and 3 pm . Then walk over and run the Phone station between 3 and 5 pm.
We have a
sign in page on our Field Day page. And, I strongly suggest contacting the station captains .
You can discuss equipment and operating times. There are a number of newer hams in our club who have shown good talet. I encourage them to sign up for assistant operating.
Operating in the field is a challenge. You may struggle, but the rest of the year, you will ponder ways to set a better station, operate quickly and efficiently. You will look forward to the next FD.
For those who have been doing Pota, Field Day will be familiar.
The entirety of Field Day is made succesful by the organization of the Team Captains and getting the help of our newer hams.
This is a lot of fun and I hope you get a chance to participate.
